Crestonne is a specialist Ceylon sapphire house, sourcing natural sapphires directly from Sri Lanka's historic gem fields.
Ceylon is the former name of Sri Lanka, so a Ceylon sapphire is a natural sapphire mined on the island — most from the gem gravels around Ratnapura and Elahera. The name carries weight because Sri Lankan deposits are unusually low in iron, which gives the stones a brightness and clarity rarer in other origins. The island produces the full range of sapphire colours — blue, yellow, pink, teal and the rare orange-pink padparadscha among them — and has done so for more than two thousand years.
Every stone we list is natural — mined, not made in a laboratory. Some natural sapphires are heat-treated to improve their colour; it is a legitimate, centuries-old practice, always stated on the certificate and the listing. Synthetic sapphires are a different thing altogether, and we do not sell them.

How to tell a real Ceylon sapphireBoth, and we always say which. Heat treatment is the long-standing norm of the trade and is not a defect — it is disclosed on the certificate and on our listings. Unheated stones, where the colour is entirely the earth's own work, are considerably rarer and priced accordingly. Neither is ever left unstated.

It also holds colour in a way a colourless stone cannot, which is why coloured sapphires have become the choice for a ring meant to look like no one else's.
