The Blue Sapphire Collection

Ceylon Blue Sapphires

Natural blue sapphires from Sri Lanka, in the colour that made the island famous: bright cornflower blue, deeper royal blue, and the violetish blues in between. Every stone here was bought at the source, filmed exactly as it is, and certified. Its treatment is stated on the listing.

Why Choose a Ceylon Blue Sapphire

The Colour That Made Ceylon Famous

Sri Lanka's blue sapphires are known for a medium, bright blue with life in it. Cornflower blue is the classic Ceylon colour, the one jewellers and collectors have asked for by name for centuries.

Cornflower to Royal Blue

Not every Ceylon blue is the same blue. Cornflower blue is lighter and brighter; royal blue is deeper and more saturated. Both are trade names for a range of colour, and some laboratories print them on the report. The stone's own video shows you which it is.

Bright in Every Light

Ceylon blues are prized for their transparency. They tend to keep their colour under indoor light, where darker sapphires can turn inky, which is one reason they suit a ring worn every day.

Unheated and Heated, Honestly

Heat has been the trade's standard finish for centuries, and heated blue sapphires are beautiful, legitimate stones. An unheated Ceylon blue sapphire is simply scarcer, and priced like it. Either way, the treatment is stated on the listing and confirmed on the certificate.

Origin You Can Check

We buy blue sapphires at the source in Sri Lanka, near Ratnapura. The certificate states origin, and each listing shows the stone as it is, inclusions and all.

What is a Ceylon blue sapphire?

A blue sapphire mined in Sri Lanka, the island once called Ceylon. Ceylon blues are known for a bright, medium blue with high transparency, from cornflower to royal blue. They are natural stones, sold heated or unheated, and a laboratory report confirms the origin.

What is the difference between cornflower blue and royal blue sapphire?

Both are trade names for a range of blue, not laboratory grades. Cornflower blue is a medium, bright, slightly violetish blue, the colour Ceylon is famous for. Royal blue is deeper and more saturated, with a darker tone. Neither is better by definition: cornflower stays brighter in low light, royal blue reads richer.

Is an unheated Ceylon sapphire better?

Not better. Rarer. Heat brings out the colour in stones that need it, and an unheated stone simply never needed it. When the report confirms no heating, buyers pay roughly two to five times more for that rarity. Beauty is still judged stone by stone.

What the premium actually buys →

Are Ceylon sapphires heat treated?

Most sapphires on the market are heated, whatever their origin. It is a stable practice that goes back centuries, and the trade accepts it as long as it is disclosed. Sri Lanka also produces a good share of stones fine enough to sell unheated, which adds to the island's standing.

Are Ceylon sapphires certified?

Any serious one should be, and ours all are. We use independent labs: TGL (GIA alumni), Guild or GIC. The report states what the stone is, whether it was treated and, where tested, its origin. If a seller claims Ceylon with no report, treat it as marketing.

Where can I buy a Ceylon sapphire?

From a specialist who shows certification and states treatment plainly. That could be Colombo or Ratnapura if you can travel, an auction house, or an origin-direct dealer like Crestonne. Every stone in our collection is certified, bought at the source, with its report number published.
