Colourless Sapphire - 2.06ct Cushion Cut - Natural Ceylon Sapphire

I picked this one up because white sapphire doesn't get the attention it deserves. Everyone wants blue, or pink, or that padparadscha glow, and the colourless stones sit quietly in the parcel until someone who knows what they're looking at picks them out. This one is 2.06 carats, cut as a cushion, and the cutter clearly knew the rough was worth the extra time. It reads as an excellent cut grade for a reason: the proportions are even, the corners are crisp, and the stone throws light back at you without any dead zones.

It's unheated, which for a colourless sapphire is worth pausing on. Most white sapphire on the market has been heat treated to lighten or clear up the colour, and there's nothing wrong with that, it's standard practice. But finding one that came out of the ground already this clean and colourless, with no treatment needed, is a different thing. Clarity is eye clean, so under normal viewing you're looking at a stone with no visible inclusions pulling your eye away from the cut.

As for what it suits: this is a ring stone first. At 8.61 x 5.34 x 4.9mm it has real presence on the finger, more spread than a round of the same weight, and the cushion shape wears softer than a sharp emerald or princess cut. It also works beautifully as a pendant centre stone if someone wants brilliance without colour competing with everything else they wear. And I'll say this plainly: it's a collector's stone too. Anyone building a set of unheated sapphires across the colour range needs a colourless one in there, and they're harder to find in this size and cut quality than the blues.

On value, the comparison people reach for is diamond, and fairly so. A white sapphire this size gives you a large, bright, durable stone at a fraction of what a comparable diamond would cost, without pretending to be one. But within sapphires themselves, unheated colourless material over two carats with a clean excellent cut isn't common stock. Most of what circulates is heated, smaller, or cut for yield rather than light return. This one wasn't.

No certificate travels with this stone. I'm comfortable saying that outright, because everything else about it, the cut, the clarity, the lack of treatment, speaks for itself once it's in hand.
